Several months ago, the name of Betty Loh Tih had been invariably linked with that of Peter Chen Ho.
This rumour had started with their first film together. It was "The Rose of Summer" (formerly named "Bride for Rent").
But Betty had always denied any impending ringing of wedding bells. She had explained "I cannot deny that Chen Ho and I are very good friends. He is a wonderful companion."
If wedding bells should ring, it is certainly a very long way off yet, Betty had said firmly.
These rumours however have died out as time passed by. But their film "The Rose of Summer" still remains.
It is a film which strikes a blow for true love — the kind of love that cannot be bought for money or power.
It demonstrates the human tendency of not realizing how precious a thing is until it is lost, in the role of Peter Chen Ho, who only realized how much he loved and needed Betty after she had left him.

前幾個月，報刊上凡是出現有樂蒂的名字，必然同時有陳厚的名字出現。不僅如此，他們兩人相戀的傳聞，更不絕如縷，成為銀色茶座上的熱門談話資料。
樂蒂與陳厚，同屬邵氏旗下的影星，由於兩人合演的新片「夏日的玫瑰」（原名「租妻記」），他們共同相處，一起工作，彼此在友誼上獲有增進和瞭解，正如樂蒂所說的：「我不否認和陳厚是好朋友，他是我的好遊伴，他懂得豐富我的生活內容。然而，若說我們『好事近』，那還有一段很遠的距離哩！」
基於影迷們愛護影星們的熱烈心情，尤其對樂蒂和陳厚這兩位銀幕上最敬愛的偶像，任誰都在虔誠祈禱着：「有情人皆成眷屬。」
時間終於沖淡了一切：—— 傳聞、談話資料、熱愛的願望。
所贍留下的，卻是他們兩人的藝術結晶：「夏日的玫瑰」影片，在銀幔上閃耀着絢爛的光輝；將在觀衆腦際留下深刻良好的印象。
「夏日的玫瑰」是樂蒂和陳厚，從影以來的第一次合作。他們在該片中，飾演一對情侶，浮沉愛河中，幾經波折，最後結成良緣。
故事的主題，在強調愛情的建立和增進，並不在財富的多寡，而卻是雙方的互敬和互諒。
該片劇情以悲劇爲開始，轉變到喜劇收場，情節曲折，纏綿悱惻，緊扣觀衆心扉。

素以擅演悲劇著稱的樂蒂，前在一「倩女幽魂」、「畸人艷婦」、「蕉風椰雨」等片上，均有極成功的演出，今在「夏日的玫瑰」裡，飾演一個孤苦零丁的弱女，迫於生計，雖然出租與陳厚爲臨時太太，但非衷願，所以，她那聖潔的愛情，仍未被恃財傲世的陳厚所買取。
租期屆滿，各自分離。
失去樂蒂後的陳厚，方才真正體會到她對他生命中的重要性，他始瞭解到愛情對人生珍貴，頓改前非，奉獻出了真情實愛。最後，如願以償，非但尋回了心愛的人，並且，更贏得了樂蒂對他的真愛。
戲劇是人生的反映，銀幕是社會的縮影。
樂蒂和陳厚這一對銀幕情侶，在「夏日的玫瑰」裡有深湛的演出，特別在愛情方面，是真？是假？還是讓觀衆們去判斷吧！

BRIDE-NAPPING
Diana Chang Chung-wen is seen in a new role as a fighting Amazon in the Eastmancolor Shawscope production "Bride-Napping".
She is in the role of a bandit's sister, but unlike her brother, she frowns upon his ways — especially the kid-napping of a young girl and forcing her to be his bride.
Diana, a quick-tempered girl herself, clashes with her brother, and even engages in battle with the bandits to save the girl.
In "Bride-Napping" you'll see Diana not only smartly wielding a sword, but disguised as a man too.
The film based on an episode from the well-known Chinese classic "All Men Are Brothers" is adapted for the screen by King Chuan.
Sharing starring billing are Betty Loh Tih, Grace Ting Ning, and Chiao Chuang.

「花田錯」是邵氏製片廠本年度龐大製片計劃中的一連串重點製作之一，採用邵氏綜藝體弧形大銀幕及絢麗七彩攝製，投資超過百萬港元，它和已公映的「千嬌百媚」及正在攝製中的「楊貴妃」、「武則天」、「王昭君」等幾部邵氏鉅鑄有着同等的份量。
這部由一向以手法高明見稱的著名導演嚴俊執導筒，並由千面小生金銓編劇，從「水滸傳」裡取材的古裝奇情鉅片「花田錯」，是在去年第四季開始拍攝的，經過五個多月來的千錘百鍊，緊張工作，現大致已接近完成階段。「花田錯」的女主角除了樂蒂、丁寧，還特別由張仲文客串主演，男主角則是英俊小生喬莊。據導演嚴俊指出：樂蒂在本片演的是個慧婢，她的玲瓏剔透，過去在邵氏參加康城國際影展的古裝彩色片「倩女幽魂」中，演的是個多愁善感的怨女，非常成功，現在「花田錯」裡，改變作風，演紅娘型丫頭，也異曲同工，可見樂蒂的演技是多方面的。
關於丁寧、嚴俊和她合作過「我是殺人犯」一片，熟知她的專長，認爲她在「花田錯」裡扮演色古裝片，成績極爲美滿。
張仲文客串飾演惡霸周通之妹，出身草澤，卻是個具有正義感的女子，其中有幾場武戲，張仲文是要大演武功的，據說，她就曾經因了這幾場武戲，花了近兩個月的時間，聘請北派武師，苦練武技，對一招一式，都下過一番功夫，然後拍攝。此外，她在戲裡還假扮書生，和丁寧成親，她那種瀟洒翩翩的扮相，粗中見細柔中有勁，雖然也是第一次演古裝戲，卻演得頭頭是道。
男主角喬莊，曾和嚴俊合作過「黑夜槍聲」，嚴導演對他的演技，十分推許。他在「花田錯」裡扮演落泊舉子，書生本色，確是理想人選。

Director Li Han-hsiang celebrated his birthday with a party at the Buckingham Restaurant.
It was a public holiday and a feu de joie was fired by a guard of honour, as his birthday coincided with the Queen's birthday — April 21.
More than a hundred guests attended the birthday celebration. Among them were Yueh Feng, Yen Chuan, Li Li-hua, Chao Lei, Shih Ying, Betty Loh Tih, Ting Ning, Peter Chen Ho, King Chuan, Paul Chang Chung, Chiao Chuang and others.

壽星李翰祥偕夫人張翠英暨兩位女公子，倍感歡欣，親自接待賓客。席間到賀來賓舉杯齊向壽翁夫婦恭祝：「一萬壽無疆，事業輝煌」。直迄深夜二時，始盡歡而散。
是日也，港府曾下令鳴放禮炮，校閱三軍，全港九各機關、學校休假一日，共表慶賀。

樂蒂·陳厚首次合作
樂蒂租給人做妻子，首次搬入陳厚的家，內心無限難過。
Betty has hired herself out as a "wife". It is with a feeling of sadness that she moves into Peter's home.
樂蒂走了，陳厚找不到她的下落，惆悵萬分。
With Betty Loh Tih gone, Peter is filled with sorrow and remorse, when he can't find her.
當他們的關係發展到某種程度時，他們最終決定結婚。
Though their relationship goes on to some aerial basis, they eventually feel love in each other's arms.
「他真的愛我嗎？」——在約滿的一天，樂蒂的心中仍然是一個疑問。
"Does he really love me?" Betty asks herself. She still can't answer that question, when the term of hire is up.
十分痛苦，終日用酒來麻木自己，內心到陳厚因得不到樂蒂的諒解，
When Betty Loh Tih refuses to forgive and return to him, Peter Chen Ho takes to drinking to drown his sorrows.
在厚陳開設茶室。
After leaving Peter, Betty takes on a job in a night-club.
陳厚醉酒，獨自失魂事，互訴衷腸，樂蒂含淚趕到醫院探望。
Peter is seriously injured in an accident. It is only then that Betty rushes back to his bedside to console him.

Rose of Summer
Betty Loh Tih is forced by poverty to hire herself out as a wife to Peter Chen Ho at $2,000 for a period of two months.
But what starts out as a purely commercial relationship develops into one of love and affection. The two grow to be fond of each other.
Betty raises the question of marriage to make it a permanent relationship, but Peter Chen Ho, once disappointed in love, is reluctant.
When the term of hire is up Betty walks out without saying good-bye.
But she returns to him when Peter is seriously hurt in an accident and is hovering between life and death.
This is the plot of Shaw's "Rose of Summer", which was originally named "Bride For Rent".
苦命的樂蒂，為了籌款埋葬母親，迫得租給陳厚做妻子，為期是兩個月，代價是二千元。這樣的買賣，當然是不會有真愛情的，而且陳厚是個情場的失意者，他這樣在樂蒂身上化錢，無非是一種報復心理，樂蒂當然也明白這點，但爲了死去的母親，她祇好忍痛給人玩弄。
他們日夕的相處，樂蒂的莊嫻賢淑，陳厚的溫柔熨貼，雙方漸生好感，他們雖然不是一對正當的夫婦，但他們卻享受到從未嘗過的溫馨生活。
但他們的心中仍存有一種恐懼，就是對他們之間的愛情仍然是一種懷疑，他們這樣是否真心相愛呢？他們自己都沒有信心。
樂蒂曾試向陳厚提出婚事，但陳厚卻猶疑不決，到約滿的一天，陳厚卻因酒醉未能給她一個具體的答覆，她祇好忍痛地離開了陳厚。
當陳厚醒來時，發覺人去樓空，內心無限惆悵，他知道自己已深深愛上了樂蒂，他不能沒有了她，但多方設法找尋，仍是得不到她的下落，後來終在一家夜總會找到了樂蒂，原來她就在那裡唱歌爲生。
樂蒂見了他，真是又愛又恨，她冷淡的態度，使陳厚既失望，又愴痛，日夕借酒澆愁，不慎醉酒駕車失事。樂蒂趕到醫院探望，互訴心曲，才知道雙方已深深墮下愛河。
這是文藝悲劇「夏日的玫瑰」中動人的故事，該片前名「租妻記」，是邵氏公司出品，由羅臻導演，陳厚、樂蒂首次攜手合作，各展所長，感人下淚。
