同是一般素材，但在不同的导演处理下，摄制出来的作品，它的成就也就有很大的差别。例如外国影片“魂断蓝桥”、“芳华虚度”、“春风秋月”——这些影片的题材曾被连二接三的搬上银幕，但大家一致相信，由李翰祥来导演这部影片，其成就与前一部“十三妹大闹能仁寺”，当然不可同日而语。

In Shaw's latest costume production "The Adventure of the Thirteenth Sister", one can not fail to notice the master's touch that lifts a film high above the ordinary.
The director is none other than Li Han-hsiang, who directed the best picture award winning film "The Kingdom and the Beauty".
Ever since his triumphal return from the Sixth Asian Film Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Li Han-hsiang had been hard at work on "The Thirteenth Sister".
The film adapted from folklore, stars lovely Loh Tih opposite handsome Chao Lei of "Kingdom and Beauty" fame. In the supporting roles are Huang Chih-po, Wong Yuen Lung and Yang Chih-ching. The screenplay is written by Wong Yueh-ting.
同是一般素材，但在不同的导演处理下，摄制出来的作品，它的成就也就有很大的差别。例如外国影片“魂断蓝桥”、“芳华虚度”、“春风秋月”——这些影片的题材曾被连二接三的搬上银幕，每一片的评价都不相同，后来拍制的有时会比以前拍制的影片成就更大；也有比较逊色的。电影所以被称为为艺术工作，原因也在此。有才华的导演能够拍出好影片，虽然大家所采取的都是同一样的题材。“游龙戏凤”的题材不但曾被拍成电影，舞台上更不知被搬演过多少次。但是，李翰祥采用这个题材，为邵氏公司拍成彩色影片“江山美人”，荣获“最佳影片”的十二具金鑽奖。这正好说明中，同是一样的题材，在超卓的导演处理下，会把顽石变成美玉。
李翰祥从马来亚首府吉隆坡获奖归来后，便埋头摄制古装片“儿女英雄传”，题材采自民间故事。
“十三妹大闹能仁寺”。以前，这个故事也曾被搬上银幕，但大家一致相信，由李翰祥来导演这部影片，其成就与前一部“十三妹大闹能仁寺”，当然不可同日而语。
这是有事实可以作为证明的，李翰祥能够把一段酒家少女贪慕虚荣的故事，改成“江山美人”——中纯洁不朽的爱情，使到影片得到辉煌的成就。在“儿女英雄传”中，李翰祥也有他独特的见解，这虽然是一个佳人和才子的故事，在他处理下，主题成为颂扬人类互助和不畏强暴的奋鬬精神。由于李翰祥在“江山美人”中有辉煌成就，大家深信“儿女英雄传”将也是个成功的作品。
“儿女英雄传”的剧本，是出于曾在“江山美人”得奖的名编剧家王月汀手笔，由邵氏影星乐蒂、王植波、王元龙、杨志卿等主演，演员阵容是坚强无比的。演员服装都经专家精心设计；佈景方面更是不惜工本，能仁寺中的大殿宝塔都是工程宏大的建筑，可与“江山美人”的宫殿媲美。
